The risk

What goes wrong at liquor stores

Premium spirits are small, valuable and easy to resell, which makes them a favorite for shelf sweeps and grab-and-run theft. After closing, the same shelves attract break-ins.

There is no national count of liquor store theft. The Virginia figures come from the state-run ABC stores and are an example, not a national rate.

What we see, and call you about

  • Concealment and bag-stuffing in the spirits aisle
  • Grab-and-run at the door
  • Repeat offenders, compared with clips you have already shared with us
  • After-hours glass breaks and forced doors
  • Bottles handed over at the register without a sale

Answers

What live monitoring can and can’t do

We can

  • Call you during a theft and keep watching
  • Keep evidence for organized retail theft cases
  • Check your closing routine every night

We can’t

  • Check IDs or verify a customer's age
  • Stop a shoplifter physically
  • See into areas your cameras don't cover

Privacy and compliance

Not legal advice. Have your counsel confirm the rules that apply to your site.

Our monitoring standards

  • Audio stays off by default. About a dozen states require every party to consent to audio recording, so we only listen where your state allows it and your signs say so.
  • No cameras in restrooms, changing areas or break and locker rooms, and we never monitor them.
  • Your state's alcohol board may have its own record-keeping or camera rules for licensees. Check with them; we have not found a federal camera rule for liquor stores.

Recommended hours for liquor stores

Liquor stores: common questions

Can you stop shoplifters?

We see them and alert you live, and the clip supports a police report. We don't physically intervene.

Can you watch my high-value bottles?

Yes, if a camera covers them. During setup we tell you which of your existing views matter most and where a camera angle could be better.

Do you work with my Lorex or Hikvision-type system?

Yes. We connect through the apps these recorders already use, such as Lorex Cloud, iVMS, Guarding Vision and SmartPSS.

What do you do at 2 a.m. if someone breaks in?

We call the people on your call list right away, keep watching while they decide the next step, and save the footage.

How much does it cost?

$199 to $299 a month per store, depending on the hours you want covered, with a 7-day free trial.
